Hi! Thank you for being here. My name is Kathryn, I am an Herbalist, Nutrition Coach, and Fertility Awareness Educator. I am deeply passionate about holistic health and the importance of having a full spectrum mind, body & soul approach to our wellness and healing.
I have been teaching since 2009 on a wide variety of topics including herbalism, nutrition, holistic health & wellness, women’s reproductive health, pregnancy, and fertility awareness. I have taught small private groups and many public classes, been a guest speaker in University settings, and taught herbalism classes to groups of midwives. My private practice was birthed in 2014 and I have coached people across 4 continents doing remote consultations.
I have studied multiple healing traditions over the last twenty years. I took herbalism classes and intensives with numerous teachers for over a decade. In 2016 I became a Certified Women’s Herbal Educator with Aviva Romm, and also had the honor of working with her for a year. I studied healing qigong for several years at Ling Gui International Healing Qigong School in Portland, Oregon. I am a Certified Nutrition Coach with NASM, and as of June 2024, I am completing a Personal Trainer Certification as well as a Health & Wellness Coach Certification. In early 2024 I had the honor of being a nutrition coach as part of an intensive program at my gym, iRock Fitness. Working in the fitness world has been incredibly inspiring and I am excited to continue down that path.
A little bit more about me
I grew up in Quebec, Canada and my first language is French. I moved to the United States in 2005, and I am now a single mom to 2 wonderful wild boys.
I love everything nature and wilderness-related. I am happiest when I am outdoors, whether it be playing in the sun or star-gazing. I aim to spend time outside as much as I can, during all 4 seasons. I enjoy bird watching and plant & mushroom identification / foraging. I love to grow food and medicinal plants in my backyard. I walk and hike a lot, go camping, and try to lose myself in the forest as often as possible. I am a very active person and I aim to move my body in various ways every single day – I enjoy qigong, mobility workouts, and going to the gym & lifting weights. In the winter I love snowboarding, and in the summer you can find me swimming & stand-up paddleboarding.
Overcoming some health challenges of my own
One of the things that has made me so passionate about natural healing is my own personal journey with health challenges. When I decided I was ready to welcome a child into the world, I tried to get pregnant for several years unsuccessfully, and I had two miscarriages. My OB told me I had “unexplained infertility” and her only suggestion to me was to try Clomid (a fertility drug). I didn’t like not having an explanation and was determined to get pregnant naturally.
Deep down, however, I knew something was off. I had many signs of hypothyroidism – I was told my TSH was in the normal range, but in hindsight, it was actually elevated (beware that many doctors still use outdated ranges when testing TSH and other hormones). My basal body temperature was also much lower than normal, which is a common sign of a poorly functioning thyroid.
Furthermore, all signs pointed to me also having endometriosis at the time. I was told the only way to confirm a diagnosis was to get a laparoscopy (a small surgery where a scope is inserted into the abdomen) but I did not feel comfortable getting such an invasive procedure done, so I declined. I had excruciating painful menstrual cramps for years and years, I knew there was more to that story. I decided the symptoms I had experienced for so long were significant enough for me to assume there were indeed hidden issues, and I got to work on healing myself accordingly.
I still hold this view today that naming a condition only goes so far – symptoms and constitution can tell us almost everything we need to know to get started on our journey to a healthier version of ourselves!
And so I took matters into my own hands… I began to read everything I could on the topic of natural fertility and hormonal health. I used the information I gathered from charting my cycles to guide my journey to conception. I used herbal medicine, received acupuncture treatments, practiced qigong & meditation regularly, and also used jade eggs to improve pelvic circulation. I practiced lunaception, and made big changes and improvements to my diet.
I was determined to overcome this obstacle without interventions or drugs, and all my hard work paid off – in 2011 I was able to get pregnant naturally! I entered pregnancy in a balanced state of health, I had an easy and enjoyable pregnancy, as well as a comfortable and life-affirming home birth. Click here to read my orgasmic birth story.
I also had a difficult time conceiving my second child. I had 5 miscarriages before I became pregnant with my son. The second time around, I felt much more confident in facing those challenges and knew in my heart that I would eventually be able to get pregnant naturally and have a smooth pregnancy. I did, and I gave birth to my second son in June 2016. He came two weeks early, on the new moon, in a really quick, intense, but easy birth.
My struggles with fertility and other health issues have been an incredible learning journey for me, and have given me a deep appreciation for our innate ability to achieve radiant health naturally. I am deeply grateful to share my passion with you and assist people on their individual healing journeys.
Stay wild and vibrant,
